Israel Velasco is the Florida Region Executive for Popular Community Bank. He is responsible for the management and financial performance of 20 branches and all lines of business, including Retail Banking, Commercial Banking and Popular Association Banking within the Central Florida and South Florida Markets.
Mr. Velasco has 26 years experience in the banking industry, all in South Florida.
Prior to joining Popular Community Bank in 2005, he was President & C.E.O. of Colonial Bank, where he was responsible for leading a $3 billion region with 47 branches in Miami-Dade, Broward and Palm Beach Counties.
In 2010, Mr. Velasco was named to the Miami-Dade College Alumni Hall of Fame, recognizing his business achievements and extensive community activities.
He is a Board Member, and was previously Chairman, of Junior Achievement of Greater Miami. He is a Lifetime Honorary Member of the Board of Directors for the South Florida Chapter of the March of Dimes. He is currently on the Board, and was previously Chairman, of the Board of Directors for the Center for Financial Training in South Florida. He is Member of the Florida International University President’s Council.
He earned his Associates in Arts degree in Business Administration from Miami-Dade Community College, a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from Florida International University, and a Master’s degree in Business Administration from the University of Miami.
