Popular launches financial education guide for schools under its Finanzas en Tus Manos program

09/03/2024

Popular announced today that, starting this first week of September, it will provide a financial education guide to schools and educational entities, as a useful and practical resource for educators from first grade to fourth grade.

“Popular remains steady in its commitment to provide opportunities and promote the development of the communities where it operates. Financial education is a key component for well-being. Educating children and young people from an early age is an investment for the future, which will equip them with the necessary tools to make healthy decisions when they are adults. This guide is essential for our children and young people to continue acquiring knowledge in core areas such as mathematics and finance,” said Beatriz Polhamus, first vice president of the Social Commitment division.

The guide was developed with the input of teachers and students of different grades to develop a study tool that was in line with their needs and tastes. This guide provides valuable information for planning topics and activities, covering financial concepts, theory, glossary and practical exercises. “By integrating the country's educators as spokespersons for financial education, we help build the foundation for a healthy financial culture,” Polhamus added.

Finanzas en Tus Manos (FeTM) is Banco Popular's Financial Education Program established in 2010, focused on educating individuals and communities on good savings practices, essential aspects of finances and the development of skills for good financial management.

Currently, the Finanzas en Tus Manos Educators Network is supported by a group of over 70 employees, who contribute their knowledge and time to offer workshops to the public on how to healthily manage their finances, covering topics such as savings, achievement planning, budgeting, credit, protection/insurance, succession planning, retirement, among others.

In the last three years, Finanzas en Tus Manos has offered over 500 workshops to more than 20,000 participants. Among these, nearly 250 workshops have been offered in schools of the Department of Education, as well as private schools, and to anyone representing a group in communities, organizations, agencies and companies who wants to participate in an educational workshop.

The guide is for the entire educational sector, public and private, and is available in this web page: Finanzas En Tus Manos - Manual Educativo. Those interested in requesting in-person or virtual workshops, can do so by accessing www.popular.com/finanzasentusmanos.
