As part the annual event, Ultimate Flavors of the Islands, Banco Popular hosted an exclusive dinner for 100 guests at the Frenchman's Reef Marriott Beach Resort in St. Thomas. The dinner consisted of 11 tables of ten guests each with one celebrity chef and two local culinary students cooking right at each table.
World-renowned chefs delighted guests with exciting dishes. The chefs were: Chef Xavier Pacheco from the restaurant, La Jaquita Baya; Chef Javier Nasaar from Tras Patio; Chef Ariel Rodríguez from Augusto's; Chef Christian Quiñones from Salt Gastrobar; Chef Jeremie Cruz from Villa Montaña Beach Resort; Chef Deam Simon; Chef Digby Stridirion; Chef Emily Ellyn; Chef Ben Vaughn from Food Network.
The students that assisted the chefs were selected by the various culinary schools in the Virgin Islands. Among them were the two students that took part of an internship last year, hosted by Banco Popular, that consisted of two-weeks filled with intense preparation and education at the Universidad del Este (UNE) in Puerto Rico and a hands-on experience at the Intercontinental Hotel in San Juan under the direction of Chef Efraín Cruz.
The chefs put on a show while they prepared their food and explained the entire process to their assigned table. Chef Jeremie Cruz even gave one of the guests his apron as a gift for her enthusiasm and amazing personality. The Italian themed dinner had everything from duck, pasta, lamb, seafood, fish, among many more. At the end of the night, one guest from each table got to take home "la marchera della fortuna", which is an Italian mask per the night's theme.
Proceeds from ticket sales will benefit local culinary programs throughout the Virgin Islands regions to promote the culinary industry and help develop the next great chefs.
