Paul Mak is Popular Bank’s Region Executive for New York and New Jersey. Leveraging over 35 years of experience in the banking industry, he oversees the Bank’s sales, marketing and operations in the New York/New Jersey region, which includes a network of over 40 retail branches and various lending platforms.
Prior to joining Popular Bank, Paul was President and CEO of Doral Bank. Under his leadership, Doral opened its doors in October 1999 as a de novo bank with $25 million in capital to a community bank with 11 retail branches and over $700 million in assets. He also served as Chief Financial Officer where in addition to helping create Doral Bank, he assisted in designing products and services, creating policies and procedures, and hiring and training new employees.
Paul has held several roles in retail banking. Prior to his joining Doral Bank, he served as EVP and Deputy General Manager at Bank Central Asia responsible for strategic planning, business development, regulatory compliance and operations. He also held positions at Marine Midland Bank and Citibank.
He holds a bachelor’s degree in Computer Application and Information Systems from New York University, College of Business and Administration.
